Controller for Commercial Construction

The driving force behind every successful construction project and continual business growth is the presence of a skilled Controller. DEI Incorporated, a nationally recognized design/build firm, has an immediate need for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller for Commercial Construction to oversee our financial operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial skills and a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles. As the Controller, you will be responsible for the accounting department, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, payroll and providing insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, ensuring compliance and regulatory standards.
  • Manage general ledger reconciliation and balance sheet reconciliation processes to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Manage job costs, projections and processes to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Prepare and present detailed financial reports to the Owner, highlighting key performance indicators and trends.
  • Ensure timely regulatory reporting in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Accounts payable processes, ensuring timely payment of invoices and accurate record-keeping.
  • Payroll processing, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and accuracy in employee compensation.
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify areas for improvement and support strategic planning initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits to ensure compliance and transparency in financial reporting.
  • Manage tax planning, compliance and reporting.
  • Manage, negotiate and maintain relationships with lenders, banks and other funding sources.
  • Utilize Foundation software for efficient management of accounting tasks and reporting functions.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance to the team, as needed.
  • Additional duties, as needed.

*Requirements*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Controller in the Construction Industry or in a similar financial management role.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in Foundation or similar accounting software is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Procore and/or other construction software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is essential.
  • Knowledge of Procore and/or other construction software desirable
  • Excellent skills in financial report writing and presentation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Demonstrated experience in accounts payable and payroll functions.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
